As a TalentEd tutor, you will use your years of experience in education to build relationships with the same
four students each week to help them realise their potential.

TalentEd sessions run after school for one hour a week at one of our partner schools. We are a
nationwide charity and we operate a rolling recruitment process, with start dates available throughout the academic year.

Over the course of three terms, you will teach, mentor and reflect with your students to help them
develop skills on one of our three programmes:

a) confidence, study skills and aspirations (our flagship programme)
b) expertise in a specific subject
c) study skills and revision techniques.

Responsibilities and Commitment

 Support and challenge your group of four bright young people for a full academic year
 Plan, prepare and deliver inspiring weekly 1 hour sessions
 Complete a short online feedback form after each session
 Take part in training, observations and appraisals
 Invoice TalentEd at the end of each month (hourly rate between £30-40 dependent on



 Desire to give every young person the support, skills and aspirations to realise their potential
 Inspirational qualified teacher withexperience teaching in a school setting
 Able to develop a range of skills in students
 An Enhanced Disclosure andBarring Service (DBS) Check (carried out by TalentEd, unless subscribed to the online DBS update service)

TalentEd is a registered charity that offers high-ability young people a year-long programme of weekly small group sessions.

Our qualified teachers and inspirational role models improve grades and academic and career options.

Every young person should have the support, skills and aspirations to realise their potential. Sadly, this is not the case for young people from low income areas in the UK and educational inequality is highest amongst the brightest students.

Our bright students

High ability students from low income backgrounds do not fulfill their academic potential. Bright but poor pupils in England and Scotland (in the top 10% of achievement nationally, but the lowest quarter socio-economically) are substantially behind bright well-off pupils academically – a gap of around 2 years and 8 months (Sutton Trust, 2017).

These students also miss out on university and careers. The 2014 Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission Report tells us that the most advantaged children are 6 times more likely to go to university than the most disadvantaged. In addition, those from low income backgrounds are more than twice as likely to be unemployed.

We work with bright students who are eligible for Free School Meals, or who attend schools with higher than average levels of Free School Meals.

Together with the school we select a cohort of high prior attainers who are no longer on track for top grades. For example, we might select a secondary school pupil who achieved level 5s at Key Stage 2, but who is not on track for three A-A*/7-9 grades at GCSE.

To contribute to our costs, we charge schools dependent on the cohort size for the full academic year. Schools often consider this to be a good use for parts of their Pupil Premium or Aim Higher budgets. We are a registered charity and we also receive grant funding to help subsidise our process.

Our programme

TalentEd’s programmes are tailored to the needs of the individual. Our partner schools identify the needs of their cohort and choose a programme theme, either a) study skills, confidence & aspirations, b) subject specific, or c) study skills & revision. TalentEd tutors then provide individual support to their small group of four students, tailoring sessions to help them realise their potential.

Our small groups

TalentEd tutors build a nurturing relationship with their small group of the same 4 students each week.

The evidence in the Education Endowment Foundation Toolkit (2014) states that smaller groups allows for more sustained engagement from pupils and work that is more closely matched to learners’ needs which builds more effective feedback.

Our expert teachers

TalentEd’s expert teachers are all qualified, with years of experience in schools.

Ofsted’s 2012/2013 Annual Report confirms, as you might expect, that stronger teaching comes from experienced teachers. The 2014 EEF evidence shows the quality of teaching increases the effectiveness of small group tuition. TalentEd is therefore committed to quality. In addition to our tutors’ qualifications and experience, we have a rigorous recruitment process, ongoing support and regular appraisals.

We know from our work since 2012 that many qualified teachers who retire, take sabbaticals or start families, are passionate about education and want to continue to contribute. A 2015 DfE report states that there are 43,000 teachers leaving the profession each year.

TalentEd enables these expert teachers to use their qualifications and experience to give hundreds of bright young people from low income backgrounds personalised support.
