TalentEd’s expert tutors are an integral part of the programmes we run, without their expertise and inspiration we would not be able support disadvantaged students across the country. To celebrate their efforts we will be featuring profiles of some of our tutors, to get to know the people that make it all possible a little better.
Denise works with TalentEd at Hassenbrook Academy in Essex and having been with us for a couple of years now, it was only right that we got her to express herself about her experience as a TalentEd tutor as well as give people an insight on what she gets up to outside of her profession.
Hello, my name is Denise Sparrow and I am a lecturer currently working in a HE College of Business and Management in London. I am an experienced teacher and lecturer having taught in a range of establishments to include secondary schools, further and higher education. In addition to my professional career in education, I have worked for international lawyers to deliver education and training and also as a political assistant to the European Member of Parliament for the Eastern Region in the UK. My specialist subjects are Business, European Studies and Information Technology. I am passionate about learner engagement and interest and wherever possible use IT to support, enthuse and progress the learning experience.
I joined TalentEd to continue working with secondary school students in my local community alongside my current career. I come from an East End working class background (which I am very proud of) and, having passed the 11+, had the benefit of a wonderful education in a London City school which has enabled me to be successful in my working life. I have always loved learning and want to inspire and enthuse others to share that passion and encourage all students to have self-belief to achieve anything they want to in life. It is a privilege to be able to play a part in the education of future generations.
